Artist Statement

I like to explore the interplay between growth and decay, presence and absence, the organic and the crafted. My ceramic practice is deeply enmeshed with the environments she inhabits reflecting a porous entanglement between human, organic materials, and memory.

Working through slow, hand-built sculpting techniques, I allow character and rhythm to emerge intuitively. The resulting forms are personified, sitting somewhere between creature and sculpture, inviting readings that are both familiar and estranged. Glazing is my least favourite part of sculpting, and I like to have my surfaces mirror nature. I often leave them raw, ruptured, and marked by the unpredictable reactions of the groggy clay I use. The instinctive nature of my process gives the sculptures their rhythm, charm, and quiet vitality.

“I like my pieces to be tactile and playful- contemporary ceramics with an ancient feel.”
