CUCKMERE HAVEN ARTWAVE 2023

Ah very exciting! I was honoured to be chosen for a spot in an exhibition at Cuckmere Haven, a lovely shepherds like barn perched on the edge of the cliffs near the Seven Sisters cliffs- the barn is also located right next to a very very popular beach footpath so lots of passers by. The exhibition is part of a large festival called Art Wave, a yearly festival which runs for 2 weeks all over East Sussex. The main events tend to be in the town of Lewes, with artists opening up their own studios or shops hosting a series of artists work. It was amazing to be selected from over 400 applicants, and only 75 were chosen!! I was luckily to find an opening in this exhibition which my work fitted into their theme to which I entered my children crabbing sculpture, fitting in with the theme ‘Wide Blue’, a sea theme. My children crabbing were a reflection of I suppose happiness from childhood and how even as adults we still have those fond memories.

I couldn’t have been prouder of myself but more importantly that people resonated with my work.

It was wonderful dropping off my ceramics and visiting the opening night, chatting with other artists and seeing my work being exhibited amongst other amazing work. After the opening night, I got an email from one of the organisers stating someone had bought my sculpture already! The pickle was that they took it with them, and wanted more work of mine- blimey. So my next sculpture which I thought fit in with the theme was my On the Shoreline sculpture. A glass base shallow bowl with a figure sat on the edge reading. One of my favourites at the time, it had so much character that I hadn’t quite expected when making it. After a day of it being exhibited, that too sold!
